Classical Lutheran Homeschooling: An Introduction in Three Parts

Have you ever wondered why Lutheran parents choose to homeschool, or if you might homeschool the children with which God has blessed you? Are you curious as to what elements are required to make a homeschool successful? Are you uncertain not only how to choose curriculum, but also how to implement it while staying sane? Would you like to connect with Lutheran homeschool families across the country and discuss how to utilize classical education in your home? Then, this seminar is for you! This three-part webinar will answer these questions (and more!) in an engaging and conversational manner, even suggesting readings and activities for further contemplation. Sessions will each be one hour long, with the last 20 minutes devoted to audience discussion. Developed with new homeschooling families in mind, but with refreshment and conversation for even seasoned homeschooler, join Marie MacPherson for this classical Lutheran homeschooling webinar.

Session 1: Educational Philosophies and Governmental Considerations

Why homeschool? * Why homeschool classically? * What considerations must I make based on the state in which I live? * What sorts of records might I keep? * What is assessment, and why does it matter?

Session 2: Identifying and Implementing Curriculum

Why isn’t there a “Lutheran” curriculum? * What types of curricula are available? What are their advantages and disadvantages? * What concerns should I be aware of when purchasing or using curricula? * How can I make any curriculum “Lutheran”? * How do I know what subjects to teach? * When, if ever, should I switch curricula?

Session 3: Practical Tips for Combining Home and School

Who runs the homeschool? * How can I homeschool…with many age levels, with a low budget, with high schoolers, without an optimal education of my own? * How do I plan for a day, a week, a year, a childhood? * What sorts of home and family rituals contribute to a homeschool?
