Writing a Novel 201
Description
This course will be taught by Katie Schuermann on Tuesdays at 7:30pm CT. The course covers 15 weeks of material with weekly live classes and interactive assignments to reinforce learning. (Schedule subject to change per instructor’s discretion.) Course Description: Join author Katie Schuermann in discussing and developing the necessary components of a good, beneficial story. This course will ask and answer several questions integral to the creation of both short- and long-story formats, ultimately serving as a guided tour through the beginning stages of writing a novel. (Prerequisite: Learn to Write from the Literary Greats 101) Through considering both the theological import and practical aspect of storytelling, students will learn to: + develop and map a plot. + create and name believable characters. + establish the best place and time for the telling of a story. + discern what content is best for the reader. + determine and put into practice an effective writing schedule. + write the beginning chapters of an original novel. + overcome writer’s block. + query literary agents and submit a manuscript. Only students who have completed Learn to Write from the Literary Greats 101 may register for this course.
