Qualifications for a Full-Time Teacher for Fifth and Sixth Grades at Hope Lutheran School of Idaho Falls, Idaho

Position available for starting date 8-1-2026 for the 2026-2027 school year:

We are seeking a teacher for our combination fifth and sixth grade classroom. Such a teacher can be either a rostered teacher or a candidate for a divine call or a Lutheran school teacher who has a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree. The qualifications for such a teacher for our Lutheran classical school are:

• The LCMS rostered teacher or candidate for a divine call must have earned a Bachelor of Science or Arts in Education, either elementary or secondary education and desires to teach fifth (5th) and sixth (6th) grades, or one who is a Lutheran school teacher and an active member of an LCMS congregation.

• Has experience with or desires to teach a classical Christian curriculum, including but not limited to teaching cursive handwriting, children’s classical literature, grammar, and has strong skills in mathematics for the elementary level.

• Skill and joy in leading students in prayer and group devotions.

• Consistent worship attendance at calling/hiring congregation and avails oneself of the means of grace in Word and Sacrament.

• Able to apply Law and Gospel to students’ peer relationships, conflict resolution, and students’ personal concerns.

• Demonstrates ability to work as a team member with headmaster, pastors, teachers, office staff, and volunteers, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the learning environment of the school.

• Able to partner with parents through respectful and professional communication for the academic progress and character building of each child/student.

• Able to work in a professional manner within school settings and events and participate in school events and fundraisers.

• Classroom management skills: record keeping; use of technology; various teaching styles and classroom management methods.
