Theology, the study of God, includes the study of God's creative actions. God created the seven liberal arts. God created man's natural aptitude for virtue. God gave the man and the woman reason and all their senses so God could use these to still take care of them. Some of the philosophies discovered by the pagans, the Church may rightfully reclaim as its own. By a brief survey of primary texts in the Western canon, this course provides a Lutheran perspective on the tenets of classical education. We'll look at Scriptural foundations for learning, some philosophies of education, and several key components of the content of Lutheran classical education, such as the liturgy, the seven liberal arts, and the virtues. We will have a weekly reading followed by discussion of practical application.
