This course provides a brief introduction to the quadrivial arts—arithmetic, geometry, music, and astronomy—within the classical tradition and their place in the Classical Lutheran classroom. Participants will explore the historical development of the quadrivium, including its reception in Lutheran education through figures such as Philip Melanchthon, while also gaining practical strategies for teaching these disciplines in ways that cultivate order, wonder, and a deeper understanding of God’s created world. Emphasis is placed on integrating the quadrivial arts across the curriculum in a manner that is both pedagogically sound and theologically grounded.
