What brought you into classical Lutheran education?
There have been a lot of harmful, non-Christian educational philosophers in recent history, and their ideas are pretty commonly taught to undergrad education students. I was one of those students, and when I realized the potential harm there, I knew I wanted something different. “Classical education” can mean a lot of things, but it always includes learning from people of the past; I personally found it valuable to read what Christians like Chrysostom or Melanchthon had to say about education.
Why is classical education important?
A classical education is useful because it works so well as a type of Christian education. Language is central to a classical education, and so is learning truth. As Christians, we know that language is the means by which Jesus gives us forgiveness in his Word and Sacraments. Since Jesus, the Word made flesh, is the source of all truth, a classical education is a wonderful way for a Christian to learn what’s most important!
