CCLE Certified Teacher Spotlight: Marie MacPherson

Marie MacPherson has her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and is certified by the Consortium for Classical Lutheran Education. She and her husband Ryan have been homeschooling their children since 2010, the oldest of whom has now graduated with an Associate’s degree, and is an aid in a classical Lutheran school. Before their move to Casper, Wyoming, the MacPherson family was blessed to participate in a variety of homeschool cooperatives, where Marie taught art, music, debate, drama and more. She also organized various educational experiences and field trips for the community. Now, Marie is blessed to collaborate with Mount Hope Lutheran School, where her children attend in the afternoon for choir, Latin, history, and more.

Marie especially appreciates the Consortium for Classical Lutheran Education because it synthesizes the best of all her educational worlds. At typical teachers’ conferences, presenters don’t acknowledge the vocation of parent and the God-given calling of teaching one’s own children. At homeschool conferences, the focus on Christianity is mostly Catholic or Baptist, and often at odds with the Lutheran faith. And, although classical education is growing, it is still difficult to find support for classical education in either secular or Christian circles, which is why CCLE has been such a breath of fresh air as she educates her children. Marie also appreciates all of the student contests sponsored by CCLE. These contests focus on student excellence and motivate her children to work hard memorizing Scripture and classical Latin speeches, as well as persevere to develop beautiful handwriting skills and much more.
