Scripture and Self Evident Truths
What truths does a Lutheran hold to be self-evident? In the Declaration of Independence, it is clear that the American Founders held five things to be self-evident. These self-evident truths informed the Declaration's grievances against the King of Great Britain, but also present an understanding of natural law, of God, of equality, of a creator, of unalienable rights, of life, of liberty, of property, of happiness, of government, of reformation, and more. What does Scripture have to say about these things? This presentation will look at the syllogistic argument and philosophical underpinnings of the Declaration of Independence through the lens of Lutheran theology.
