Hymn Writing as a Capstone of a Classical Lutheran Education

Classical Lutheran education forms and nourishes students with the Holy Scriptures and with the arts of the trivium and quadrivium. What sort of senior project draws upon everything a student has learned of theology, letters, and numbers? Come hear the case for hymn writing—text, tune, and setting—as a capstone of classical Lutheran education. Attendees will learn about the course of study for high school students at Mount Hope Lutheran School, look at examples of student hymn projects, gain insight into the process, and receive a packet of resources. Whether or not such a project strikes your fancy, this will be a great opportunity to think big-picture about the goals of education and hear about one way in which everything can come together.
